You have made it through Year 10. The summer before Year 11 is the perfect time to take small steps that will make your life easier later on. This is not about turning your holiday into revision boot camp. It is just about being smart with your time and making a bit of space to get ahead.
You have probably covered most of the content for Paper 1 in subjects like Maths and Science. That means you are in a great position to build confidence and start Year 11 feeling prepared.
Here is a simple plan you can follow.
Go to your exam board’s website and download the specification for each subject. These are basically lists of every topic you need to know for the exam.
Go through each topic and ask yourself honestly if you feel confident with it. Tick off the ones you understand. Highlight the ones you need to review. That list becomes your own summer revision guide, built around what you actually need.
Now that you know what to focus on, pick a few methods that help you remember and understand. Remember you must use an active approach; learning isn’t a spectator sport.
Try a mix of these:
Watch YouTube videos for tricky topics. Channels like Cognito and Primrose Kitten are great for GCSE Science. Make summary notes or your own flashcards as you watch.
Use the flashcards on Physics and Maths Tutor. They are clear, quick to use, and cover every topic.
Read through your CGP books, especially the sections you marked as weak points
Teach the topic to someone else or talk it through out loud.
Make mind maps or diagrams if you are more visual.
Try not to stick to just one method. Switching things up helps you remember more.
Since most of your Paper 1 content is already done, now is a great time to try past papers.
Pick one subject and do a full Paper 1 under timed conditions. Try not to look at your notes. When you finish, mark it using the mark scheme and look at the questions you found hardest. Those are the topics to go back over next.
Doing this now means you will not have to cram it all in during Year 11, and you will already know where to focus.
You do not need to revise hours every day. You do not need to feel guilty for relaxing. But putting in a small bit of effort at a high frequency rather than high intensity will help you learn how to learn.
