1. Policy Statement
With-It Tutors is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults. We
believe that all individuals, regardless of age, disability, gender, race, religion, belief, or sexual orientation,
have the right to be protected from harm, abuse, exploitation, and neglect.

2. Scope
This policy applies to:
– All With-It Tutors staff, tutors, contractors, volunteers, and third-party associates.
– All children, young people, and vulnerable adults who engage with our services.

3. Legal Framework
This policy is based on UK legislation and guidance, including:
– The Children Act 1989 & 2004
– The Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006
– Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) 2024
– Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023
– The Education Act 2002
– The Prevent Duty (Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015)
– GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018

4. Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
The Designated Safeguarding Lead is responsible for:
– Acting as the point of contact for all safeguarding concerns.
– Ensuring staff and tutors are trained and updated on safeguarding practices.

– Liaising with external agencies, including social services and the police when appropriate.

5. Recruitment and Vetting
– All tutors must hold a valid Enhanced DBS check, including barred list checks for working with children.
– Tutors must complete a safeguarding self-declaration and provide references.
– Identification and qualification checks will be carried out before onboarding.

6. Training
– All tutors and staff must complete basic safeguarding training prior to working with learners.
– Refresher training is recommended annually.
– Awareness of the Prevent Duty is required, particularly for tutors working in a school context.

7. Online Safety and Code of Conduct
Tutors must:
– Use only With-It Tutors’ approved communication platforms.
– Never engage in private contact with students outside official channels.
– Keep sessions professional and avoid personal conversations or relationships.
– Ensure parents or carers are aware of and consent to online sessions.
– Never record sessions without parental and student consent.
– Dress and behave appropriately during online sessions.

8. Recognising Abuse
Staff and tutors should be alert to signs of:
– Physical abuse
– Emotional abuse
– Sexual abuse
– Neglect
– Online abuse

Concerns should be reported immediately to the DSL.

9. Reporting a Concern
If you are worried about a child’s safety or welfare:
– Immediately report it to the DSL via email or phone.
– In urgent cases, contact the police (dial 999) or local children’s services.
– Keep accurate, factual records of the concern and what action was taken.

Tutors should not investigate themselves or promise confidentiality.

10. Confidentiality and Data Protection
– All safeguarding concerns will be treated with appropriate confidentiality.
– Data is stored securely in compliance with the GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

11. Review and Updates
This policy will be reviewed annually or in line with changes to legislation. All staff and tutors will be notified of
any significant updates.
